Sacred Symphony
Today, 40 years ago, Claude and I exchanged vows and entered into the sacred symphony of marriage.

Sacred Symphony
This morning, 40 years ago
we left behind the words
yours and mine and found
in their absence a duet
we chose to play together.
Why would we ever have wanted
to attempt
this life alone?
To the table of love,
we brought bread, we brought wine
of our own sweet communion.
To the bed of marriage,
we brought passion, we brought promise
of our own strong commitment to covenant
We brought shears to cut through
the shackles and snares of the past,
brought champagne to toast
the courage of showing up as we are.
And when we forgot
the lyrics to the music,
well, there was always dancing.
And when we forgot to dance,
well, there was always laughter.
And when we forget to laugh,
Well, there was always
The union of tears –
The way two rivers
Become one ocean,
The way wind and brass
Become one sacred symphony.

Love like that
Even after all this time
The sun never says to the earth,
“You owe me.”
Look what happens with
A love like that,
It lights the whole sky.
(Hafiz)

Dear God
Thank you for your hand upon our lives and marriage these past 40 years. Thank you that you have worked all things together for our good, creating a sacred symphony that reflects your glory. We are so excited for the plans you still have for us. As it is written, “What no eye has seen, no ear has heard, and no human heart has conceived — God has prepared these things for those who love him.”
Amen
